Hollywood Sign Girl

In the early 1930s, a young woman named Peg Enwistle (originally born in England) went to California from New York (where she was a successful Broadway actress) to become a movie star. She did manage appear in one film but most of her scenes were cut out. Depressed, she went to the famous Hollywood (then Hollywoodland) sign and jumped to her death from the H. Sad ironic thing is that after she died, she got a letter that she was accepted to appear on a Broadway play about a suicidal woman.
